Hello Everyone!
Setting up my very own blog spot was an interesting task. I have never relaly participated in a blog, so the idea of creating my own was rather challenging for me. I didn't find the process itself very difficult but do feel that it will be an added daily chore to keep myself up to date on the my blog. That being said... I will do my best!
In my current placement, our grade 3 classroom has a computer with internet access within the classroom. Practically every classroom in the school is equipped with a computer and internet access. We also have two Smart Boards in the school and are looking at getting a third Smart Board. Our class also has a projector cart as well as an overhead projector.
In class last week Cecilia and I stated the following on during the classroom discussion online:
"We believe that as educators it is a part of our role to evolve and cater to the students using the modes of communications that students are now being exposed to. It is our job to educate them and help them become critical thinkers. We do not need to use new technology as a substitute for traditional teaching methods, however we can use newer technology as a supportive tool to reinforce teachings."
After reading Stephen Downes blog posting on "Things You Really Need to Learn", I feel that many of the areas he mentions are things that students learn unintentionally. A lot of the meaningful learning that occurs is in relation to skills that go beyond the traditional teachings of a classroom.
It is mentioned in this blog that school won't teach you what you need to know to be successful in life. I disagree. I believe that we learn many valuable life skills and tools in addition to academic knowledge.
